Oct 17 2011 Lost apps with iphone update iOS5

Just giving the world a heads up.  If you recently updated your iphone and found a ton of apps missing, they can be recovered through the app store:

Lost apps with iphone update iOS5

I updated my iphone and about had a fit noticing that a TON of my apps were missing!  After spending time on the phone with Verizon (and being redirected to several disconnected numbers), I was told to call Apple.

Meanwhile I was looking through my phone and found the solution.  Thanks to the new iCloud my apps were not gone!!!

I did see a few problems with this

  1. Each app has to be downloaded individually
  2. There is no way to permanently remove selected apps (some were installed merely to get points/credits for other games).
  3. The downloaded apps have to be reorganized! (Grrrrr.)

Anyways the steps are as follows:

  1. Go to the App Store
  2. Go to Updates
  3. On the Updates page, go to “Purchased”
  4. Click “Not On This iPhone” on the upper right
  5. Simple click the little clouds on the right side of the apps you want to reinstall

*You will not be charged again for apps that have already been purchased!

Oct 17 2010 Mobile Devices Web Design BEFORE PC Web Design

After reading an article I just read by Luke Wroblewski, entitled “Mobile First”,  I was reminded of a few years back, when I ran a printing company in Pensacola, FL.

I always asked my new clients how they found out about the company and I noticed that a notable amount of new clients were finding us through a google search on their iphones.  I once got a call from a client who asked for directions to the shop.  When I asked him how he found out about the company, he said that he had just got through doing a google search WHILE DRIVING!

Oct 16 2010 What is bleed?

YOU NEED TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND WHAT BLEED IS if you are designing either a business card, flyer, brochure, or postcard for print.

It amazes me how even the most experienced designers have no concept of what it is and how to use it!

FIRST, please understand this:
MOST COMMERCIAL AND DESKTOP PRINTERS WILL NOT PRINT ALL THE WAY TO THE EDGE OF A SHEET OF PAPER!

Oct 11 2010 3 CUSTOM Photoshop Shortcuts that are Absolutely Essential (*edit* Plus 2 Bonuses!)

One of the first things I do when I reinstall or updgrade photoshop is add a few shortcuts.  There are 3 general tasks when using photoshop on a daily basis that I found myself doing, that did not have shortcut keys:

Transform Selection, Create New Guide, and Making guides at 0%, 100%, and 50% of the canvas. continue reading…

Oct 10 2010 CSS Grid 978px Improved

The 978px grid with added push/pull classes as well as prefix/suffix classes.  After reading an article by webdesignerwall.com, I decided to give their “simpler 978px grid” system a try. I like how it is slightly larger than the 960 grid system, has no margins on the far left and right sides, and also has 30px gutters. I quickly realized, however, that the css had no push, pull, prefix, or suffix classes.  So I decided to add them myself.
